6 It has been a busy year for the Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama. We combined important community project initiatives and achievements of the club, with fun events and member nights that included a 10-pin bowling challenge, a member roadshow night… which proved to be a very interesting night, with members bringing along prized family possessions and some very unusual and hilarious items of immense interest. Signature events for the year included the much loved and very popular Teddy Bears Picnic, which featured a guest appearance of “Humphrey B Bear” to the delight of the children and those a little older who remember Humphrey. The fifth annual Golf Charity Day held at Gainsborough Greens Golf Club drew a record field of 120 participants and is proving to be a major fundraiser for our club. The final event for the year will be “The Annual Santa Run” to be held on the 22 December in partnership with the Ormeau Rural Fire Brigade. It is always a much anticipated and celebrated community fun day for all involved. Much planning goes into these events, and it is only with the ongoing efforts and support of our volunteer members that we can plan, promote, and present these much-loved community events. The Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama celebrates a year of fun and achievements The events along with our Bunnings BBQ outings and other promotions allow the club to support our designated charities, and our local community grants program. Beneficiaries from our grants programme include The Starlight Foundation, The Cancer Council, Safe Haven Community, The Volunteer Marine Rescue, Ormeau Girl Guides, Ormeau Scouts, Norfolk Village and Gainsborough State Schools, Netball Association - Pimpama United, Ormeau Bulldogs AFL Club, Playful Possums Playgroup. Major projects where funds were raised in partnership with the assistance of the Local Business community and other contributors included the handover of a command fire support vehicle to the Ormeau Rural Fire Brigade, and a 12 seater bus to E-Suarve, a not for profit charity targeting and helping disengaged and troubled youth in our community and beyond. A Busy year? YES, but with very rewarding outcomes to date and our thanks go to our valued sponsor partners, community support, Division 1 Councillor Mark Hammel, Member for Coomera Michael Crandon and a very special thank you to our hard working and valued Rotary members.
