3 We offer free breast screens for women aged 40 and over. Breast screening is most effective for women aged 50 to 74. Our appointments are quick and can be made outside working hours. Book today. BreastScreen Queensland has a new mobile van that will be at Pimpama City Shopping Centre until 5 September 2024. The van visits seven sites annually, in addition to the permanent clinics at Burleigh Waters, Helensvale, Robina and Southport. Whilst the permanent clinics can be accessed all year, the mobile van is taken to convenient spots to reduce travel time for locals. “Taking the mobile van to shopping centres can make it easier for our clients to attend and fit their screen into their usual visit to the shops,” said BreastScreen Queensland Health Promotion Officer Sarah Jesser. Breast screens (screening mammograms) are available for eligible people aged 40 and older, with individuals welcome to continue screening beyond age 74. Women aged between 50 and 74 are actively encouraged to screen every two years, as the benefits of screening mammography have been shown to be most effective for this group. Currently only one in every two women aged 50 to 74 participate in the free BreastScreen Queensland program within their recommended time frame. Having mobile clinics can help make it easier for people to attend screening closer to where they live or work. “One in seven women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Regular breast screening helps save lives by finding breast cancer early when it’s easier to treat,” Ms Jesser said. To find out if you’re due for your breast screen, or to find your nearest BreastScreen Queensland service, phone 13 20 50 or visit breastscreen.qld.gov.au/make-an-appointment Eye catching new BreastScreen van at Pimpama City Did you know? - Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian women. - 9 out of 10 women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of breast cancer. - Breast screening can find breast cancer early, before it can be seen or felt. - Breast screening has a normal result for most women, with no cancer found.

6 The Teddy Bears indeed had their Picnic at the second annual Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama’s Teddy Bears Picnic held on Sunday 9th June 2024 at Heritage Park Pimpama. The weather was perfect and the bears were very well dressed as children paraded around holding their bears with pride. All for the good cause fundraising for this years’ chosen children’s charity the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The Starlight Children’s Foundation is a wonderful organisation helping to brighten the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children, young people and their families by replacing the pain, fear and loneliness of hospitalisation with fun, joy and laughter. Many of those who attended the event had their own personal stories about their interactions with the Joyful Bears and Generous Hearts: Celebrating Success at the Teddy Bears Picnic Starlight Children’s Foundation. We are pleased to announce that the event raised approximately $10,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. A highlight of the event was a very special visit from the one and only Humphrey B. Bear. What a delight to see the smiles on faces of both young and old as they took happy snaps and gave a big hug to Humphrey. This included our Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama members with Humphrey giving a helping hand to our volunteers at the BBQ. We would like to thank all of our volunteers, fellow community organisations, local businesses, and event and prize sponsors for making this event possible and a success. Finally, a big thank you to both Gold Coast City Council Division 1 Councillor Mark Hammel and State Member for Coomera Michael Crandon for their continued support to provide the community a family friendly event each year. The Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama are pleased to deliver this event for the community and look forward to making more happy memories next year. 7 Regular eye tests with an optometrist can help make sure your eyes are in good health. They can pick up problems with your eyes before you notice anything. You don’t need a doctor’s referral to see an optometrist for an eye test. Regular eye testing is important for early detection of health problems such as Cataracts, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and even Pterygiums, that’s why we recommend yearly check-ups. The earlier these problems are diagnosed, the sooner you can get treated. This will improve your vision outcomes. Eye tests can also help identify if you have trouble seeing at different distances. During her time as a Barrister Tanya appeared on District Court sentences and appeared regularly in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia on Family law matters. Tanya then decided to return practising as a Solicitor and opened Ormeau Legal in 2012. During this time Tanya has acted for clients in relation to a variety of matters including Family law matters, Criminal and Traffic matters amongst other areas of law including Civil litigation and Wills and Estates. The firm started off small with just Tanya and a para-legal and has since grown to include a fulltime Conveyancer, para-legal and Solicitor. Tanya’s focus is on delivering practical legal advice at a reasonable cost to clients. In 2018 Tanya decided to open Hilton Hartley lawyers located at Pimpama City. The name is derived from her grandmother’s family names. Her grandmother recently turned 100 years of age and it was important to Tanya to preserve those names for future generations. Tanya’s daughter Olivia Roeszler was admitted as a Solicitor earlier this year and her son Daniel Roeszler is due to be admitted as a Solicitor in early 2024. Tanya’s team is comprised of Chantal Hill who is a Senior Associate and practices predominantly in the area of Family Law and Department of Child Safety matters. Chantal is passionate about family law and is a strong advocate for her clients. Olivia practices predominantly in the area of Wills and Estates and Family Law. Olivia is extremely approachable and has been described as being friendly and highly efficient. Thomas Stubbings is our criminal lawyer who is happiest when he is wading through briefs of evidence and making submissions to Police Prosecutions in an attempt to have his client’s charges withdrawn or reduced. Tom appears almost daily in the Magistrates and District Courts of Queensland and has proven to be a worthy advocate having been successful in having charges completely withdrawn or reduced significantly for his clients. Renee Dormer has been admitted as a Solicitor for over 10 years and practices across a number of areas of law. Renee has completed her Family Dispute Resolution training to practice as an accredited mediator and is also undertaking her Master of Laws (Applied Law) majoring in Family Dispute Resolution Practice. Renee is local to the area and is known for her friendly and approachable personality. Sharyn Polzin is our full-time conveyancer. Sharyn has over 30 years’ experience in conveyancing and if there is something Sharyn doesn’t know, then it probably isn’t worth knowing. Sharyn works closely with a number of buyers agents and has formed excellent working relationships with clients which is evident in the number of repeat clients we see at Ormeau Legal. Daniel Roeszler is completing his law degree and is due to be admitted as a Solicitor in early 2024. 12 Peachey CG News Do you know your neighbour? We all used to know each other, check on each other and share stuff. When was the last time you gave an anonymous kindness? Now is a great time to surprise someone with humanity. One of the great things about Peachey CG is, a garden is a great equalizer, it doesn’t matter whatever your story is, we won’t ask, we love watching people unwind, relax, feel safe enough to heal and grow. Nature is the best place to let life in again. Story time with Mia Once upon a time there was a mum with 2 kids, aged 6 and 1. This Mum was looking for somewhere local where she could bring her kids, have an outdoor experience, be of service to the community and maybe learn a thing or two. This Mumma and her 2 littles ones were welcomed with open arms at the Peachey Community Garden. What a joy to regularly visit a space where she felt safe to let her children run and explore, give of herself to the community with simple tasks as weeding and watering, while also learning hints and tips of gardening, to try out in her own home. Her children were being modelled the value of community and giving of yourself to community by the wonderful members of the garden. They experienced the knowledge of members, sampled home grown food picked straight off the vines and bushes, while sometimes being given rides in the wheelbarrow. They were free to be themselves while the Mumma had many eyes keeping watch as well. It was a simple time, good old fashioned garden work with many hands and joyful conversation. Fast forward many years later the trees have grown and the children have grown, one still enjoys picnics with her friends under the trees and the other is studying environmental science at uni. The Mumma has learnt so much about The Value of Community, shared her gardening tips n tricks on the radio and is still involved in this fabulous Community garden. Kids Corner More than all the toys in the world, kids love hanging out with the ones that love them the most. Simple cardboard box cars, castles, and shop fronts. Activities don’t need to cost. If you find it difficult prying kids away from screens, create a picnic in the backyard. This not only gets needed oxygen to their bodies, it is believed as bare feet and hands touch the earth and grass, their bodies “ground”. This is a great way to discharge electromagnetic frequencies, causing kids to be calm and present. Nature is a great healing mechanism.
