9 Rock for a Cause: Bands Unite to Support Christmas Food Box Appeal On the back of high inflation and the current cost of living crisis, people across Australia are being forced to ration food to afford other essential items, according to the Australian Council of Social Services (ACOSS). In an attempt to help support the Northern Gold Coast Emergency Community Care Programme to provide Christmas food boxes to those in need in our community, two awesome bands have come together to host this exciting afternoon event. Both bands are performing free of charge, with all profit from ticket sales being donated to the Christmas food box appeal. The event is being hosted in conjunction with the Coomera River Rotary Club. Come along and support this exciting event, including Revolution Rock a Tribute to THE CLASH & Setting sons a Tribute to the JAM. Friends President Mary Woods will officially open the exhibition at 4pm on Thursday November 28. All are welcome. Exhibiting artists include Sandra De Leacy, Anneke Schuck and Cathryn Coutts, who will be joined again by members of the Friends Botanical Art Group. Their artwork will include paintings, drawings, porcelain and jewellery, inspired by the plants and animals found in the Botanic Gardens. Sandra De Leacy has been making a range of hand painted porcelain forms with designs, colours and textures inspired by the flora and fauna in the gardens. Her delightful paintings of birds on porcelain tiles will be of great interest to exhibition visitors. Anneke Schuck enjoys experimenting in a variety of art forms. Painting on porcelain for many years, she has recently added a dimension to her porcelain jewellery by weaving wire around a medallion as well as fusing glass to porcelain. Exhibition visitors last year appreciated watching her making the jewellery and discussing the techniques directly with the artist. Cathryn Coutts has been focusing on significant trees in the Gardens, specifically Eucalyptus trees found growing on the Gold Coast. Following up on her Eucalyptus drawing and identification workshops held earlier this year for Native Plants Queensland, these paintings show a detailed rendering of the bark, flowers and fruit to help viewers identify different species, all of which can be seen in the Botanic Gardens, 230 Ashmore Road, Benowa.
