Glasses are like an extension of our body, and a perfect fit can make a world of difference. Here’s a guide to help you choose the most comfortable eyeglasses. Determine the Type of Eyeglasses You Need The first step is ensuring your eyeglasses improve your vision. Start with an accurate, up-to-date prescription. Then, think about the type of lenses that suit your lifestyle and visual needs. Some options include: • Single-vision lenses: For nearsightedness or farsightedness. • Multifocals: For those who need multiple focal points. • Reading glasses: For presbyopia. • Prism lenses: To correct disorders like double vision. • Plano lenses: For changing your look without prescription correction. • Prescription sunglasses: Offering both UV protection and vision correction. Consider lens coatings and add-ons like anti-glare or blue light filters, especially if you spend time in front of digital screens. These can enhance comfort and protect your eyes. Match Your Eyeglasses to Your Face Shape Next, consider your face shape. Selecting frames that suit your face helps distribute the weight evenly, avoiding pressure points on your nose, temples, or cheekbones. The goal is to find glasses that feel like a natural part of your face—lightweight and barely noticeable. Know Your Measurements Accurate measurements are key to a comfortable fit. Important dimensions include frame width, lens width, temple length, and bridge width. The bridge, the horizontal distance between the lenses, plays a significant role in weight distribution on your nose. Here are a few tips: • The bridge should not feel tight on your nose. • A slight gap between the glasses and your nose is acceptable. • If the bridge is too wide, your glasses will slide down. • If too narrow, they will create pressure on your sinuses. Consider Your Lifestyle and Personality Your lifestyle also influences the comfort of your eyeglasses. If you have an active lifestyle—whether in sports or outdoor activities—look for durable, flexible materials like polycarbonate. These are impact-resistant and lighter than traditional plastics, reducing strain on your nose and ears. For those who spend hours in front of screens, lenses with blue light filters can reduce eye strain. On the other hand, if style is your priority, lightweight materials such as acetate can offer both fashion and comfort. Choosing comfortable eyeglasses requires careful consideration of your vision needs, face shape, measurements, and lifestyle. Paris Miki Optical’s Store Manager Michael has over 31 year’s experience as a qualified Optical technician and has been working in the area for over 23 years. There is an onsite workshop for quicker spectacle making, so you don’t have to be without your own frames for weeks if using your own frame for new lenses; repairs can be done onsite and same day service is available on in store stock lenses. 4 Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch The firees asked if we could record their concerns first. Opening question, do you know how many fires are raging out of control? There are too many and this only the start of the fire season! With high winds and excessive fuel (dry vegetation), we can expect fires in our district before long. The firees could add all sorts of anecdotal information that would take up the rest of this page – to spare you this, in summary, remove all fuel from around your properties and have an escape plan. Fire spreading through dry grass is a particular hazard. The NHW team are concerned that pensioners and super-busy families are particularly vulnerable. Not all of us have trailers, if you are one of the lucky few, please talk to you friends and neighbours about collecting dry fonds, grass cuttings, etc. and taking these to the tip. Our community has a great name for helping those who are more vulnerable, please continue the good work. Useful to also know that the Disaster and Emergency Management Unit (DEMU) is running workshops to address key issues which include risk assessment, planning, and communication, plus resources and infrastructure available. The DEMU can be contacted on 07 5582 9395. Keep in mind that in addition to uncontrolled fires, extreme and unpredictable weather patterns will deliver destructive winds and catastrophic flooding. The season ahead could represent a significant challenge. When disaster strikes, our community spirit will hopefully moderate the damage. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) continue to pursue the StreetSmarts state-wide initiative leading to a reduction in accidents from the ‘Fatal Five’ – speeding, drink driving, failing to wear seatbelts and driving while tired or distracted. With the holiday season approaching we can expect increased traffic density. If you need to learn more about QPS initiatives in relation to road safety, please visit: www.police.qld.gov.au/initiatives/ road-safety. Great to note a high level of interest arising from the National Secure Your Home Day (NSYHD) 2024 program which took place end of September. Please follow-up on this opportunity to review and improve your home security; free NSYHD kits are available and include a home security checklist with tips on securing your home. Youth crime is a particular concern, we have learnt that installing cameras is not enough, you need a comprehensive program based on the principal, Lock it or Lose It. Please visit: www. secureyourhomeday.com.au. Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is a community led safety and awareness program that aims to prevent crime, stop social isolation and increase the safety, security, and quality of life for everyone in your community. Our next NHW event will be on the 12th of November 2024 with a 7.00 pm start, location at the Meeting Place (aka the Oxenford and Coomera Community Youth Centre), 25 Leo Graham Way, Oxenford QLD. Our annual general meeting will take place at the start of the event. We are grateful for the strong relationship we enjoy with the QPS operating from the Coomera Station and we are promised a stimulating report on steps being taken to prevent crime. We are also advised that there remain outstanding questions on Youth Justice; we will devote time to answering these. You will also hear from our local community leaders including our Counciler, and our State Member for Parliament. Many of our visitors, take advantage of informal meetings once our formal event is finished. Given the popularity of the raffle supported by light refreshment, we will continue with this tradition. You are assured of a stimulating evening, and we look forward to welcoming you. Martin Mankowski Area Coordinator Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch DONATE BLOOD, SAVE LIVES. Do something special. The 2024 Pan Pacific Masters Games (PPMG) has registered more athletes than the Paris Olympics with more than 11,000 athletes from all over the world already entered in the 1-10 November largest multisport event in the southern hemisphere. Tracking well towards an expected 16,000 entrants contesting one or more of 46 sports, Events Management Queensland (EMQ) CEO Ben Mannion said the Olympics hype was potentially having a positive impact on numbers for the event. “Masters sport is becoming increasingly popular but in an Olympic year the interest escalates because people recognise the power of sport to unite countries and likewise communities and they’re inspired to revisit their former sport or try a new one. “There is also an ever-increasing awareness of the health benefits of physical activity with master’s sport offering so many options to become involved – and you can be as young as 18 years in some sports to start competing at a master’s level. “The competition is fierce on the sporting field but perfectly balanced with great friendships forged and lots of socialising at the dedicated games Entertainment Hub, “Mr Mannion said. PPMG has attracted individuals and teams from 30 countries with the largest teams heading to Queensland from New Zealand, India, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, America and Canada. Eighty per cent of the participants are part of team sports. Mr Mannion said there were many opportunities for people to join a team with the online Sports Bulletin Board advertising places in teams and an option for players to provide their credentials to be considered for a team. https://mastersgames.com.au/ppmg/sportsbulletinboard/ “From netball and rugby league teams looking for an extra player or two, to a lawn bowls player looking for a partner, places in a dragon boat team, a doubles player wanted for tennis in the 60+ division … there’s lots of events across many age groups for people who want to be involved but are currently not part of a team/group.” The event will officially kick off from 1-10 November with an opening ceremony on Saturday 2 November at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre followed by entertainment from the Australian Rock Collective. The Pan Pacific Masters Games are organised by Events Management Queensland and are proudly supported by Experience Gold Coast and the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland. 2024 Pan Pacific Masters Games
