The 2024 Pan Pacific Masters Games (PPMG) has registered more athletes than the Paris Olympics with more than 11,000 athletes from all over the world already entered in the 1-10 November largest multisport event in the southern hemisphere. Tracking well towards an expected 16,000 entrants contesting one or more of 46 sports, Events Management Queensland (EMQ) CEO Ben Mannion said the Olympics hype was potentially having a positive impact on numbers for the event. “Masters sport is becoming increasingly popular but in an Olympic year the interest escalates because people recognise the power of sport to unite countries and likewise communities and they’re inspired to revisit their former sport or try a new one. “There is also an ever-increasing awareness of the health benefits of physical activity with master’s sport offering so many options to become involved – and you can be as young as 18 years in some sports to start competing at a master’s level. “The competition is fierce on the sporting field but perfectly balanced with great friendships forged and lots of socialising at the dedicated games Entertainment Hub, “Mr Mannion said. PPMG has attracted individuals and teams from 30 countries with the largest teams heading to Queensland from New Zealand, India, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, America and Canada. Eighty per cent of the participants are part of team sports. Mr Mannion said there were many opportunities for people to join a team with the online Sports Bulletin Board advertising places in teams and an option for players to provide their credentials to be considered for a team. https://mastersgames.com.au/ppmg/sportsbulletinboard/ “From netball and rugby league teams looking for an extra player or two, to a lawn bowls player looking for a partner, places in a dragon boat team, a doubles player wanted for tennis in the 60+ division … there’s lots of events across many age groups for people who want to be involved but are currently not part of a team/group.” The event will officially kick off from 1-10 November with an opening ceremony on Saturday 2 November at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre followed by entertainment from the Australian Rock Collective. The Pan Pacific Masters Games are organised by Events Management Queensland and are proudly supported by Experience Gold Coast and the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland. 2024 Pan Pacific Masters Games
