2 As a result of roadworks on Tamborine Oxenford Road, the Upper Coomera Cenotaph is being relocated to Tallowwood Park off Rose Valley Drive. The Rotary Club of Coomera Valley, as community custodians of the Cenotaph, have worked closely with the Dept of Main Roads and Gold Coast City Council regarding the new location. (Construction underway and TMR advise it will be completed in time for Anzac Day 2025. The Rotary Club confirms that the event will proceed as always with a March and Service. The only difference from the past will be the new location. The club will still be providing the opportunity for returned servicemen and women and their families, schools, service clubs and the community to pay their respects by marching and attending the Service. Details of the event are as follows; 1. Origin of March will be Highland Reserve State School main hall building. 2. Rotary Anzac Display will be in the main school hall 3. March will leave the school hall at 9.00 am and proceed down Highland Way and Rose Valley Drive to the Cenotaph in Tallowwood Park for the Service. 4. The Service will be preceded by a re Dedication of the recently relocated Cenotaph. 5. The Service is intended to start at approximately 9.30 am and will be complete by 10.30. 6. Some road closures will be in place along Highland Way and Rose Valley drive (see later advice re detail). The Rotary Club of Coomera Valley invites the community to come along to the new location and continue to pay their respects to those who have served and continued to serve our country and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Please follow the Rotary Club of Coomera Valley Facebook page (https:// www.facebook.com/RotaryCCV/) for more information on the event as it comes to hand. There will be an event page you can share with your friends The Rotary Club of Coomera Valley Anzac Day 2025 and family. Community members can also email the club at coomeravalleyrotary@ gmail.com The club would like to hear from any community members who might like to volunteer on the day. Only her daughter Marianna, stuck in Berlin, knows that her mother is hiding somewhere in France. While Arielle waits to be reunited with her family, her new friend Sebastien introduces her to the Resistance movement, who fight for good over evil. When the war finally ends in 1945, everyone has lost someone, the von Auspecks included. Their possessions have long been seized and Berlin lies in rubble. The City of Gold Coast will provide the vehicles to the community organisations in January and February, under a 12-month agreement to help the groups do their valuable work for Gold Coasters. Mayor Tom Tate handed over the keys to one of those vehicles to You Belong, which will use the car to deliver food and other necessities to refugees who do not have access to them. “There are so many community organisations and charities doing amazing work caring for and helping out Gold Coasters,” Mayor Tom Tate said. “We know often transportation can be difficult and these vehicles will take away one barrier that may prevent them from doing their good work or having to use private vehicles.” You Belong found and CVO Tim Buxton said for refugees something as simple as transport could make a world of difference. “This vehicle won’t just remove barriers—it will connect vulnerable families to vital community support and allow You Belong to empower them as they settle on the Gold Coast,” Mr Buxton said. “We’re incredibly grateful to the City of Gold Coast for making it easier for families to find their feet and feel at home in their new community.” The City will provide 47 vehicles to 46 community organisations including 14 cars, 25 utes, and eight vans. The vehicles will go to community organisations such as meals on wheels groups, sports clubs, community services, and environmental groups. The City will fund the registration, maintenance, and insurance of the vehicle while the community organisations will fund the operational costs, including fuel. 7 3 Bulk Billed Eye Tests 3 Most Health Funds Accepted 3 External Prescriptions Welcome *Excludes Maui Jim, Zeal and Oakley Sun RX PARIS MIKI OPTICAL Shop 18, 12 Sir John Overall Drive, Helensvale Plaza Phone 5580 5010 | www.paris-miki.com.au In our fast-paced lives, filled with digital screens and constant visual stimuli, it’s easy to overlook the significance of maintaining good eye health. However, regular checkups with an optometrist are not just a precautionary measure; they are essential for preserving the precious gift of sight and overall well-being. One of the primary reasons to prioritise optometric check-ups is the early detection of potential issues. Many eye conditions, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, often develop gradually without noticeable symptoms in their early stages. An optometrist can detect these conditions through comprehensive eye exams, allowing for early intervention and effective management. Timely diagnosis can prevent irreversible damage to the eyes and, in some cases, even save one’s vision. Moreover, optometrists are equipped with the expertise to address refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. While it might be tempting to rely on over-the-counter reading glasses or online prescriptions, these solutions may not adequately address the unique visual needs of each individual. Optometrists tailor prescriptions based on a thorough understanding of the patient’s eye health, ensuring optimal vision correction. Regular eye check-ups are particularly crucial for children, as undetected vision problems can hinder their learning and development. Children may not always express vision concerns or even recognise them, making routine optometric visits essential for identifying and addressing potential issues early on. Good vision is integral to a child’s academic success and overall well-being. Paris Miki Optical has been servicing the Helensvale and surrounding community for eyewear needs since 2005. City acquires cleared land to restore to koala habitat A 146-hectare property to be restored for koala habitat and provide for future environmental offsets has been acquired by the City. The land, which links already existing conservation areas, was strategically chosen through the Koala Habitat Acquisition Program. “The Gold Coast has some of the most important koala habitat and populations in South East Queensland and we are committed to protecting and nurturing our koalas,” Mayor Tom Tate said. “City officers will now take steps to begin restoring cleared areas as koala habitat by planting native vegetation and removing any weeds. “Restoring this land is part of our work to support the long-term viability of the east Coomera koala population and secure a Northern Koala Corridor from Coomera and Pimpama through to the hinterland.” The acquired land connects Gainsborough Parklands, Hotham Creek Reserve, Old Wharf Road Parklands and Pimpama Conservation Area allowing for improved management, access, and fauna movement. The property also secures connectivity along 4 km of the Pimpama River and Hotham Creek, allowing the City to restore a buffer to improve regional water quality outcomes. The new parcel of land is another step the City is taking to help protect koalas which includes: • Implementing conservation programs for private landholders • Installing flashing “koala” road signs and fauna fencing Tickets: $40 Standard $30 (Concession, Bond students/staff/alumini) www.eventbrite.com.au Enquiries: Robina Literary Club 5580 9118
