Gullivers celebrating 50 Years teaching the Gold Coast to swim Next year it will be fifty years since Gullivers began teaching the Gold Coast to swim. Gullivers started operating in 1975 in a back yard facility in Southport and moved to Upper Coomera in 1998. The current centre has since grown to be the biggest standalone swim school on the Gold Coast, providing more than 50,000 lessons a year and more than two million since 1975. Gullivers has resisted the industry trend to branch into multiple centres rather focusing on the one facility personally run by Terry Gulliver ensuring only the highest quality of instruction and results others envy. Over the years Gullivers pupils have achieved a series of remarkable achievements often featured on National TV and prominently in the print media. Television audiences marvelled at three years olds riding tricycles around the bottom of the pool. They were even more astounded to see three year olds conquering the Olympic distance swimming 1500 metres. One two year old amazed everyone when she swam 800 metres and a couple of one year olds swam 100 metres. At Gullivers we are proud of the fact we really teach kids to swim not just be comfortable in the water. Our warm shallow indoor pools and team of highly skilled and passionate teachers ensure the perfect environment for quick learning. If you are considering swim lessons for your youngster or already having lessons but you feel they should be doing better be assured there is no one better than Gullivers. Don’t take our word for it. Come and see for yourself. Gullivers Coomera is just a few minutes from anywhere on the Gold Coast. I guarantee you it will be worth the drive. 4 Queensland homeowners and renters now have an unprecedented opportunity to secure their energy future with SunEnergy’s innovative SunZero solar and battery program. Thanks to an $10 million fund, SunEnergy is offering up to 600 households a fully maintained solar and battery systems at no cost, with most participants expected to save between $5,000 and $10,000 over a 10-year period. In some cases, savings could exceed $15,000—all without any upfront costs or financing. Why Queenslanders Should Act Now The SunZero Program, now expanding into Queensland following its successful pilot in South Australia, allows participants to harness the state’s abundant sunshine. With Queensland’s superior solar potential, households can not only reduce their energy bills but also potentially earn higher rebates by selling excess energy back to the grid. As we approach the 2030 Net Zero in Government Operations Strategy, which aims for net-zero government operations by 2030, the demand for energy-efficient solutions is more critical than ever. The growing adoption of electric vehicles is adding strain to the electrical grid, particularly at night when solar power is not available. SunEnergy’s program offers a solution, enabling households to safeguard themselves against rising energy costs and contribute to a more resilient grid. A True WIN-WIN-WIN Situation Ernest Brindley, Queensland’s SunEnergy Agent, expressed his enthusiasm for the program: "This is a true WIN-WIN-WIN situation. The household gets a Solar and Battery system installed for free and enjoys cheaper electricity costs, the retailers can utilise the energy stored in batteries to support the grid during times of high demand, and thirdly, we’re paid to help households reduce some of their cost of living. I'm really excited to be a part of a program that not only helps reduce emissions, but I'm extremely proud to be part of something where we can reduce the cost of living for households that may not have been able to afford a solar and battery solution otherwise." Local Impact and Benefits For Queenslanders, the financial benefits are substantial. The savings for households are significant, allowing families to redirect these funds to other important expenses such as mortgages, car payments, or even just groceries. Additionally, by locking in energy savings for the next 10 years, participants can protect families from the uncertainty of rising energy costs. Another great thing about the SunZero program is that, unlike traditional solar purchases which require a significant upfront investment—a cost that landlords or tenants are typically unwilling to bear—this program costs nothing upfront. As a result, landlords experience an instant increase in the value of their investment, while tenants can enjoy the benefit of reduced electricity costs. Eligibility and Focus Areas The program is open to all Queenslanders, subject to an eligibility assessment based on factors such as energy consumption, available roof space, shading issues, and a suitable location for the battery. While the program is available statewide, the initial focus will be on homes in the Gold Coast and Brisbane areas, as we expand our network of installers to other regions. Currently, Diamond Energy is the primary retailer with a choice of new retailers expected to offer plans on the program very soon, providing customers with options to switch to the best energy plan for their needs. Success Stories from South Australia SunEnergy’s initiative has already made a significant impact in South Australia. Customers like J Matt, who shared that SunEnergy was "absolutely AMAZING to deal with," and Michael Xuan, who is "really happy with the new battery setup," highlight the program’s success and the positive experience of participants. Get Involved Queensland residents interested in seeing if their home or rental property qualifies for this program can contact the Queensland office at 07 5600 7560 or visit SunEnergy.com.au to fill out their details and receive a callback. Glasses are like an extension of our body, and a perfect fit can make a world of difference. Here’s a guide to help you choose the most comfortable eyeglasses. Determine the Type of Eyeglasses You Need The first step is ensuring your eyeglasses improve your vision. Start with an accurate, up-to-date prescription. Then, think about the type of lenses that suit your lifestyle and visual needs. Some options include: • Single-vision lenses: For nearsightedness or farsightedness. • Multifocals: For those who need multiple focal points. • Reading glasses: For presbyopia. • Prism lenses: To correct disorders like double vision. • Plano lenses: For changing your look without prescription correction. • Prescription sunglasses: Offering both UV protection and vision correction. Consider lens coatings and add-ons like anti-glare or blue light filters, especially if you spend time in front of digital screens. These can enhance comfort and protect your eyes. Match Your Eyeglasses to Your Face Shape Next, consider your face shape. Selecting frames that suit your face helps distribute the weight evenly, avoiding pressure points on your nose, temples, or cheekbones. The goal is to find glasses that feel like a natural part of your face—lightweight and barely noticeable. Know Your Measurements Accurate measurements are key to a comfortable fit. Important dimensions include frame width, lens width, temple length, and bridge width. The bridge, the horizontal distance between the lenses, plays a significant role in weight distribution on your nose. Here are a few tips: • The bridge should not feel tight on your nose. • A slight gap between the glasses and your nose is acceptable. • If the bridge is too wide, your glasses will slide down. • If too narrow, they will create pressure on your sinuses. Consider Your Lifestyle and Personality Your lifestyle also influences the comfort of your eyeglasses. If you have an active lifestyle—whether in sports or outdoor activities—look for durable, flexible materials like polycarbonate. These are impact-resistant and lighter than traditional plastics, reducing strain on your nose and ears. For those who spend hours in front of screens, lenses with blue light filters can reduce eye strain. On the other hand, if style is your priority, lightweight materials such as acetate can offer both fashion and comfort. Choosing comfortable eyeglasses requires careful consideration of your vision needs, face shape, measurements, and lifestyle. Paris Miki Optical’s Store Manager Michael has over 31 year’s experience as a qualified Optical technician and has been working in the area for over 23 years. There is an onsite workshop for quicker spectacle making, so you don’t have to be without your own frames for weeks if using your own frame for new lenses; repairs can be done onsite and same day service is available on in store stock lenses. To make an appointment call 5580 5010.

9 After a separation it can often be difficult for parents to work together to reach a parenting arrangement that is in the best interests of the children. There are many methods that can be employed to assist parents in reaching an agreement without a need to resort to initiating Court proceedings. One of the best ways that parents can try to reach an agreement is through mediation. In a mediation the parties are assisted by an independent, unbiased third party to try to reach an agreement that works best for the children. Depending on the age of the children it may also be beneficial to participate in a child inclusive mediation. In a child inclusive mediation, the children are included in the decision-making process by meeting with the mediator or suitably qualified consultant to give voice to their thoughts, feelings and wishes. Alternatively, the parties may wish to have a formal Family Report prepared prior to a mediation. A Family Report is prepared by a suitably qualified professional whom is usually a social worker or psychologist. The Report considers both the parents views and wishes and those of the children and then makes recommendations as to what parenting arrangements may be in the best interests of the children. In Court proceedings the Court will usually require the parties to undertake a Family Report prior to making any decisions and that Report is almost always given significant weight by the Judge when making the decision. The benefit of commissioning a Family Report prior to Court is that it could assist the parties in avoiding expensive Court costs and if the matter does resort to Court the Report can then be provided to the Court without the need for a further delay. At Ormeau Legal we can help parties arrange a mediation, whether it is child inclusive or not, and can assist parties in arranging for a Family Report. We can guide parties in reaching a child appropriate agreement that suits each client’s particular needs. If an agreement is reached, we can then assist parties in preparing Consent Orders to formalise the agreement.
