Tracking well towards an expected 16,000 entrants contesting one or more of 46 sports, Events Management Queensland (EMQ) CEO Ben Mannion said the Olympics hype was potentially having a positive impact on numbers for the event. “Masters sport is becoming increasingly popular but in an Olympic year the interest escalates because people recognise the power of sport to unite countries and likewise communities and they’re inspired to revisit their former sport or try a new one. “There is also an ever-increasing awareness of the health benefits of physical activity with master’s sport offering so many options to become involved – and you can be as young as 18 years in some sports to start competing at a master’s level. “The competition is fierce on the sporting field but perfectly balanced with great friendships forged and lots of socialising at the dedicated games Entertainment Hub, “Mr Mannion said. PPMG has attracted individuals and teams from 30 countries with the largest teams heading to Queensland from New Zealand, India, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, America and Canada. Eighty per cent of the participants are part of team sports. Mr Mannion said there were many opportunities for people to join a team with the online Sports Bulletin Board advertising places in teams and an option for players to provide their credentials to be considered for a team. https://mastersgames.com.au/ppmg/sportsbulletinboard/ “From netball and rugby league teams looking for an extra player or two, to a lawn bowls player looking for a partner, places in a dragon boat team, a doubles player wanted for tennis in the 60+ division … there’s lots of events across many age groups for people who want to be involved but are currently not part of a team/group.” The event will officially kick off from 1-10 November with an opening ceremony on Saturday 2 November at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre followed by entertainment from the Australian Rock Collective. The Pan Pacific Masters Games are organised by Events Management Queensland and are proudly supported by Experience Gold Coast and the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland. 2024 Pan Pacific Masters Games
4 Spring: The Prime Season for Selling Your Home Spring, with the flowers blooming, emerges as the most favorable season to put your house on the market. This sentiment is echoed by Joe Farr, a distinguished real estate expert from Farr Real Estate, who shares insights into why spring is the prime time to sell your home. 1. Kerb Appeal Flourishes: The transition from winter to spring revitalizes the surroundings, enhancing your home's kerb appeal. The green grass and colourful flowers create an inviting atmosphere that can captivate potential buyers. According to Joe Farr, “The initial impression of a property is paramount in real estate. A well-maintained exterior sets a positive tone for the entire viewing experience.” 2. Abundant Natural Light: Longer daylight hours during spring provide better opportunities for potential buyers to view your home in natural light. Well-lit interiors create an aura of spaciousness and warmth, making it easier for buyers to envision themselves living there. 3. Ideal Weather for Showings: Spring offers pleasant temperatures, making property showings comfortable for both buyers and sellers. “Unlike the heat of summer, spring's mild weather is conducive to house hunting,” Joe Farr comments. “It encourages more people to explore the market.” 4. School Considerations: Many families plan their moves during the summer to minimise disruptions to their children's education. Listing your home in spring aligns with this timeline, facilitating a smooth transition for these buyers as they search for a new home before the upcoming school year. 5. Competitive Market: Increased demand during spring often results in a more competitive real estate market. Multiple interested buyers can lead to competitive bidding, potentially driving up the sale price. Joe Farr highlights, “Sellers usually benefit from a larger pool of motivated buyers during the spring market.” 6. Moving Convenience: With favourable weather and longer daylight hours, moving logistics are smoother in spring, making it an attractive season for buyers looking for a hassle-free transition into their new homes. 7. Positive Atmosphere: Spring's inherent optimism can have a psychological impact on buyers. Joe Farr explains, “As the weather warms up, people naturally feel better. Buyers are more inclined to take positive action when they are in a good frame of mind.” Joe Farr from Farr Real Estate underscores that while spring offers numerous advantages for selling your home, thorough preparation remains essential. “Effective staging, maintenance, and pricing strategies are crucial, regardless of the season,” he advises. “Spring simply amplifies the potential of a receptive market.” As the season of renewal approaches, homeowners contemplating a sale should consider the benefits of listing their property during spring. With flourishing gardens, abundant natural light, and more motivated buyers shopping for their new home, spring indisputably stands out as the optimal season for selling your home. One in 7 women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Regular breast screening helps save lives by finding breast cancer early when it’s easier to treat. A breast screen looks for very small breast cancers that can’t be seen or felt by a woman or her doctor. BreastScreen Queensland offers free breast screens (screening mammograms) for eligible people 40 years and older, with individuals welcome to continue screening beyond age 74. Women aged between 50 and 74 are actively encouraged to screen every two years, as the benefits of screening mammography have been shown to be most effective for this group. While early detection can increase treatment options, only one in every two local women aged 50 to 74 participates in the free breast screening program within recommended time frames. Of more than 34,500 people who screened at the BreastScreen Queensland Gold Coast Service last financial year, 1-in-10 stated they speak a language other than English at home. To help make it easier for people to learn more about breast screening and why it’s important, particularly for women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, BreastScreen Queensland has recently released a suite of new translated information resources. People can visit the BreastScreen Queensland website, or scan the QR code, to access breast screening information in a range of languages. ‘A short guide to breast screening’ Fact sheet is now available in 13 languages - Arabic, Japanese, Kinyarwanda, Korean, Nepali, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog-Filipino, Thai, Traditional Chinese and Vietnamese – and can be found online at breastscreen.qld. gov.au/client-support/women-frommulticultural-communities A Fact sheet for women living with disability is available in English, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Vietnamese via breastscreen. qld.gov.au/client-support/women-withdisability New resources help women learn more about free breast screening Two animated videos that help explain what happens at a breast screening appointment and Assessment clinic (for those who are asked to return for further tests), are accessible in numerous languages including Auslan. 7 Aging Eyes: Common Issues Your eyes change as you age. Some problems become more common as you get older, although they can affect anyone at any age. Presbyopia is when you can’t clearly see close objects or small print. It’s a normal process that happens slowly over your lifetime. You may not notice any change until around age 40. It’s easy to correct with reading glasses and contacts. Floaters are tiny spots or specks that drift across your field of vision. You’ll probably notice them in well-lit rooms, when looking at a bright screen, or outdoors on a bright day. They’re mostly normal, but they can signal a more serious eye problem, especially if their onset is sudden and You Choose The Offer! 3 Bulk Billed Eye Tests 3 Most Health Funds Accepted 3 External Prescriptions Welcome PARIS MIKI OPTICAL Shop 18, 12 Sir John Overall Drive, Helensvale Phone 5580 5010 | www.paris-miki.com.au STANDARD SINGLE VISION 2 FOR $299 DESIGNER FRAMES Choose from our luxury brands and take 50% off when you purchase full priced lenses. *Excludes Maui Jim, Zeal and Oakley Sun RX 50%OFF Take $150 off a complete pair when our other offers don’t work in your favour. *Excludes Maui Jim, Zeal and Oakley Sun RX COMPLETE PAIR $150OFF 2 pairs of standard single vision glasses from our selected range, clear or tinted options available dramatic. If you see them along with flashes of light, your retina might be detached from the back of your eye. If you notice a sudden change in the type or number of spots or flashes you see, visit your eye doctor as soon as you can. Dry eyes happen when your tear glands can’t make enough tears or produce low-quality tears. Your eyes might itch, burn, or turn red. It’s rare, but if you don’t take care of it, you could lose some vision. Your eye doctor may suggest a humidifier in your home or special eye drops that simulate tears. Doctors treat severe cases with tear duct plugs, prescription eye drops, or surgery. Tearing, when your eyes make too many tears, or the tears aren't draining properly, can happen if you're sensitive to light, wind, or temperature changes, or if your tear duct drainage systems are blocked. Shield your eyes and wear sunglasses. If that doesn't help, you may have a more serious problem, like an eye infection or blocked tear duct. Your eye doctor can treat both. Cataracts are cloudy areas that cover all or part of the lens of your eye. In a healthy eye, the lens is clear like a camera lens; light passes right through it and hits tissue at the back of your eye. That’s the retina, and it processes images. Cataracts block the lens and make it hard for you to see. They often form slowly, without pain, redness, or tearing. Some stay small and don’t affect your sight. If they cause problems, your doctor can remove them with surgery and replace your lens with an artificial version. Glaucoma is a disease that affects the eye's optic nerve. It typically results from too much pressure inside your eye. If the normal flow of the watery fluid between your cornea and lens is blocked, the fluid and pressure from it build up. If you don’t catch it early, it can lead to permanent vision loss and blindness. You may not have symptoms or pain early on, so get your eyes checked regularly. Treatment ranges from prescription eye drops and oral medications to surgery. Retinal disorders affect this thin lining on the back of the eye. It’s made up of cells that collect visual images and pass them on to your brain. Problems with your retina affect this image transfer. They include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vessel occlusions, and detached retina. Early diagnosis and treatment will help you keep your vision.
