2 Queensland homeowners and renters now have an unprecedented opportunity to secure their energy future with SunEnergy’s innovative SunZero solar and battery program. Thanks to an $10 million fund, SunEnergy is offering up to 600 households a fully maintained solar and battery systems at no cost, with most participants expected to save between $5,000 and $10,000 over a 10-year period. In some cases, savings could exceed $15,000—all without any upfront costs or financing. Why Queenslanders Should Act Now The SunZero Program, now expanding into Queensland following its successful pilot in South Australia, allows participants to harness the state’s abundant sunshine. With Queensland’s superior solar potential, households can not only reduce their energy bills but also potentially earn higher rebates by selling excess energy back to the grid. As we approach the 2030 Net Zero in Government Operations Strategy, which aims for net-zero government operations by 2030, the demand for energy-efficient solutions is more critical than ever. The growing adoption of electric vehicles is adding strain to the electrical grid, particularly at night when solar power is not available. SunEnergy’s program offers a solution, enabling households to safeguard themselves against rising energy costs and contribute to a more resilient grid. A True WIN-WIN-WIN Situation Ernest Brindley, Queensland’s SunEnergy Agent, expressed his enthusiasm for the program: "This is a true WIN-WIN-WIN situation. The household gets a Solar and Battery system installed for free and enjoys cheaper electricity costs, the retailers can utilise the energy stored in batteries to support the grid during times of high demand, and thirdly, we’re paid to help households reduce some of their cost of living. I'm really excited to be a part of a program that not only helps reduce emissions, but I'm extremely proud to be part of something where we can reduce the cost of living for households that may not have been able to afford a solar and battery solution otherwise." Local Impact and Benefits For Queenslanders, the financial benefits are substantial. The savings for households are significant, allowing families to redirect these funds to other important expenses such as mortgages, car payments, or even just groceries. Additionally, by locking in energy savings for the next 10 years, participants can protect families from the uncertainty of rising energy costs. Another great thing about the SunZero program is that, unlike traditional solar purchases which require a significant upfront investment—a cost that landlords or tenants are typically unwilling to bear—this program costs nothing upfront. As a result, landlords experience an instant increase in the value of their investment, while tenants can enjoy the benefit of reduced electricity costs. Queensland Homes to Benefit from $10 Million Fund to install 600 Solar and Battery Systems at no cost! continued > Buying your first home is one of the most exciting times in your life, but it can also be a little overwhelming. We’re here to help you throughout the home buying journey, from finding out how much you can borrow, to applying for your first home loan and getting into your first property. You want your first home to be a place you not only love, but one that is a great investment for your future. While it might seem like you can’t go wrong with rates at such a low level, there’s still a host of other factors to consider before you sign on the dotted line. Work out your budget. Every home buying journey begins with a clear budget in mind. Let us assist with these common questions. • How much can I borrow and afford? • Should I get a conditional approval? • How much deposit do I need? • What are the other costs to buying a home? Step 1. Search for your first home. It’s time to hit the pavement and attend property inspections. It’s important to do your research on house prices while hunting for that perfect property. The BOQ Property App (powered by RP Data) will provide you with useful information on the last sale price, estimated price range and other sales in the area. Download for free at the App store or Google Play, or pop in branch for a detailed property report. Step 2. Choose your first home loan. Choosing the right first home loan is just as important as finding the right first home for you. Whether you have a clear idea on the home loan you want or you would like to speak to an expert on your options, we will help you find the right home loan for your individual circumstance. Step 3. Purchase your first home. Once you’ve found your first home and have reached an agreement with the seller, the settlement process begins. We can talk you through the likely next steps to prepare for settlement, which will include the following: • Contact a solicitor or conveyancer to review your contract of sale. • Return your signed contract of sale to the seller. • Organise a building and pest inspection • Ensure you have enough funds to cover the property settlement and solicitors fees. If you’re interested in learning more about the mortgage process and calculating how much you can borrow, contact us BOQ Nerang Mall today.... see advert back cover Guide to buying your first home.

3 Eligibility and Focus Areas The program is open to all Queenslanders, subject to an eligibility assessment based on factors such as energy consumption, available roof space, shading issues, and a suitable location for the battery. While the program is available statewide, the initial focus will be on homes in the Gold Coast and Brisbane areas, as we expand our network of installers to other regions. Currently, Diamond Energy is the primary retailer with a choice of new retailers expected to offer plans on the program very soon, providing customers with options to switch to the best energy plan for their needs. Success Stories from South Australia SunEnergy’s initiative has already made a significant impact in South Australia. Customers like J Matt, who shared that SunEnergy was "absolutely AMAZING to deal with," and Michael Xuan, who is "really happy with the new battery setup," highlight the program’s success and the positive experience of participants. Get Involved Queensland residents interested in seeing if their home or rental property qualifies for this program can contact the Queensland office at 07 5600 7560 or visit SunEnergy.com. au to fill out their details and receive a callback. Some problems become more common as you get older, although they can affect anyone at any age. Presbyopia is when you can’t clearly see close objects or small print. It’s a normal process that happens slowly over your lifetime. You may not notice any change until around age 40. It’s easy to correct with reading glasses and contacts. Floaters are tiny spots or specks that drift across your field of vision. You’ll probably notice them in well-lit rooms, when looking at a bright screen, or outdoors on a bright day. They’re mostly normal, but they can signal a more serious eye problem, especially if their onset is sudden and dramatic. If you see them along with flashes of light, your retina might be detached from the back of your eye. If you notice a sudden change in the type or number of spots or flashes you see, visit your eye doctor as soon as you can. Dry eyes happen when your tear glands can’t make enough tears or produce low-quality tears. Your eyes might itch, burn, or turn red. It’s rare, but if you don’t take care of it, you could lose some vision. Your eye doctor may suggest a humidifier in your home or special eye drops that simulate tears. Doctors treat severe cases with tear duct plugs, prescription eye drops, or surgery. Tearing, when your eyes make too many tears, or the tears aren't draining properly, can happen if you're sensitive to light, wind, or temperature changes, or if your tear duct drainage systems are blocked. Shield your eyes and wear sunglasses. If that doesn't help, you may have a more serious problem, like an eye infection or blocked tear duct. Your eye doctor can treat both. Cataracts are cloudy areas that cover all or part of the lens of your eye. In a healthy eye, the lens is clear like a camera lens; light passes right through it and hits tissue at the back of your eye. That’s the retina, and it processes images. Cataracts block the lens and make it hard for you to see. They often form slowly, without pain, redness, or tearing. Some stay small and don’t affect your sight. If they cause problems, your doctor can remove them with surgery and replace your lens with an artificial version. Glaucoma is a disease that affects the eye's optic nerve. It typically results from too much pressure inside your eye. If the normal flow of the watery fluid between your cornea and lens is blocked, the fluid and pressure from it build up. If you don’t catch it early, it can lead to permanent vision loss and blindness. You may not have symptoms or pain early on, so get your eyes checked regularly. Treatment ranges from prescription eye drops and oral medications to surgery. Retinal disorders affect this thin lining on the back of the eye. It’s made up of cells that collect visual images and pass them on to your brain. Problems with your retina affect this image transfer. They include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vessel occlusions, and detached retina. Early diagnosis and treatment will help you keep your vision. Disaster recovery enter new phase with trees planted for wildlife habitat More than 750 trees have been planted in Coombabah recently as a part of recovery efforts following the severe weather events at Christmas and New Year. The trees were planted on Coombabah Parklands, which was highly impacted by the Christmas disaster event, by City of Gold Coast officers and a team of more than 60 volunteers. Over 700 hectares of vegetation within City parks and natural areas are estimated to have been destroyed. • Free wellbeing workshops for volunteers • Working with small businesses on disaster insurance issues and future preparedness • Community informed community disaster and emergency plans Get involved in the recovery by volunteering with environmental groups such as NaturallyGC, Landcare, or Wildcare Australia. Find out more about the disaster recovery by visiting www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/ disasterrecovery “The wild weather destroyed so much of our vegetation and homes for our wildlife and these trees are one of the steps to recover the environment,” Acting Mayor Donna Gates said. “Recovery is about more than the initial clean up – it’s also about ensuring the environment, economy, infrastructure, and community’s health are built back to a better position than prior to the event, and can take months and years. “The City is committed to seeing the recovery through and building an even stronger and more resilient Gold Coast. The community can get involved through workshops and community sessions like the tree planting. We have already made some huge strides with our recovery plans including restoring all damaged parks and community infrastructure, removing 77,153 truckloads of waste, and injecting cash into the impacted community through grants and vouchers.” The City provided the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital funding, through the Disaster Recovery Grant Program, to provide treatment to wildlife injured during the disaster event which resulted in a surge of admissions. The City has events planned as part of the continued recovery, including: • Wildcare workshops • Bushfire community sessions • NaturallyGC Landcare tree plantings, kids holiday programs and citizen science wildlife monitoring • Free health workshops including psychological first aid

6 Common Denture Problems A common problem among denture wearers is ill-fitting dentures, which cause pain. Pain is directly related to the way dentures fit. When a denture rests snuggly against the gums and doesn’t slide around, then pain shouldn’t be an issue. But when dentures begin to rub against the gums, it leads to soreness and swelling. Left untreated, this can make wearing dentures intolerable. If dentures don’t fit well and you experience pain, you are likely to eat less or eat softer foods. Not eating foods that you used to enjoy is another sign of unstable or uncomfortable dentures. Poor diet and lower nutritional intake could lead to a variety of health and digestive problems. Furthermore, ill-fitting dentures constantly rub on the gums and can create a callus, called an Epulis, which may require oral surgery to remove. Natural changes in the gums and jaw over time can be another factor that causes denture pain. Gums change, and over time bone underneath the gum can shrink. The change is progressive, so you may not notice it, and over time your dentures no longer fit properly. Fixing Denture Discomfort No matter what the cause, a dental health professional can fix ill fitting dentures. Three techniques are typically used: a simple denture adjustment can sometimes fix the problem however. Relining the denture will seat the denture closely to the shape of the gums therefore stabilizing the denture giving more comfort. Depending on the individual you should have your dentures relined every two to three years to compensate for the constant change in your jaw bone. Depending on the way you use your denture, for instance you could have a very hard bite or you could be grinding your teeth in your sleep or similar, your denture should last you from five to eight years. If your denture is worse for wear then a new denture is the solution. Remember wearing the same denture past its due by date is doing you no favours, it will certainly cause problems to your gums and your jawbone later on making it more difficult to get a proper fitting denture as you age. http://www.agingcare.com/Articles/ denture-care-for-false-teeth-148020. html see advert front cover Don’t put up with pain and discomfort from your dentures BOOK GIVEAWAY TO ENTER write your name, address & phone on the back of an envelope and post to: Winners book prize will be couriered so please provide a phone number. 9 Jade Hurley, Fierce Females Financial assistance from the Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) for residents affected by the destructive summer storms is not only helping to rebuild communities, but also making them stronger. The Reconnection for Resilience Community Grants Program provided 15 community grants of up to $5000 for local not-for-profit organisations, healthcare organisations, sporting clubs and primary care providers in the storm and flood hit areas. “While the property rebuilds continue, so are the psychological health recoveries of those residents directly affected by the storms,” GCPHN CEO Matt Carrodus said. “Through programs that foster ongoing resilience, we are helping to empower people with the resources and support necessary to complete their recovery journeys,” he said. Mr Carrodus said funded activities included programs aimed at improving mental health and wellbeing through support embedded in addressing social isolation, sport and exercise classes, art therapy, skills development initiatives, community BBQs and more. We highlight a couple amazing organisations that are cleverly using their grants funding to build better local communities: Fierce Females – Westfield Shopping Centre, Helensvale Created by women for women, Fierce But Jennifer said next time it will be different. “One of the things we realised is that we were sending people away with their emergency supplies in boxes and we thought that was undignified,” she said. “So, we created Bags on the Go, with everything packed in a sturdy reusable suitcase that people can wheel out of our centre with pride. “The bags are the packed with donated toiletries and essential disaster recovery items like battery powered radios, weatherproof document holders, towels and face washers, washing powder, coins for laundromats, deodorants and other hygiene products. “They open the suitcase to find most of the things that people would need if they were faced with an emergency accommodation situation,” she said. The Studio Village Community Centre was established 30 years ago by the local community. It’s one of 140 Neighbourhood and Community Centres (NCC’s) around Queensland responding to loneliness and social isolation. On a day-to-day basis it provides a community garden, day activities, bowls, craft classes, new parent support and playgroups, and plenty more. “Our clients are diverse and in the aftermath of the disaster we also welcomed everyone to explore our community wellbeing and mental health services,” Jennifer said. “At times of need we’re always there to provide physical and emotional support and Bags on the Go is just another innovative and locally tailored example of how we put grants monies like these to the very best use,” she said. https://studiovillage.com.au/ Reconnection for Resilience: Grants Deliver Late Christmas Cheer Females gives participants the skills and knowledge to live life without harm. Women over the age of 15, many mothers and daughters, take part in a 10-week program to learn how to improve and maintain personal safety during and after stressful events. It’s a unique program that fosters resilience and community connection by blending psychology, conflict resolution and mixed martial arts techniques. And according to trainer Jade Hurley, the Women’s Wellbeing and Resilience Skill Building Workshops have been especially important in the aftermath of the Christmas storms. “These workshops have provided a safe and supportive space for women to re-build their confidence, learn practical safety skills, and foster resilience in the face of adversity and stressful situations,” Jade said. “By focusing on both physical and emotional well-being, the workshops have been instrumental in helping participants navigate the challenges, both physical and emotional, brought on by the storms. “This has empowered them to move forward with newfound strength and a greater sense of community connection,” she said. www.fiercefemales.com.au Bags on the Go - Studio Village Community Centre, Oxenford When the Christmas night storm hit Oxenford, the Community Development Manager of the Studio Village Community Centre Jennifer Schofield knew her holiday was over and there was hard work to be done. “We were badly hit, and I knew straight away an emergency community recovery was about to start because we’ve been here before with floods and fire and all manner of natural disasters,” she said. That recovery meant the distribution of emergency food and water supplies and toiletries and other essentials for people driven from their homes or those staying put to comprehend what had just happened amid prolonged power outages. They establish regulations and a framework for governance, but due to the absence of any grown-ups to provide guidance, the youngsters ultimately become aggressive and cruel, with rising tension caused by fear and power. The disturbing tale portrays the children’s journey into turmoil and indicates that the inherent nature of humanity is barbarous.
