22 FREE for not-for-profit community & sporting groups COMMUNITY NOTICES Probus Club of Southport recently celebrated its 45th Anniversary on 19th June at Dublin Docks. The occasion marked the formation of the Club on 19th June, 1979, at which time was the second Probus Club formed in Queensland, following Toowoomba Mens Probus Club. The Club holds the distinction of being the first Club formed on the Gold Coast and the fifth Club outside England, the ‘Birthplace’ of Probus. Interestingly, at the time of inception, all Probus Clubs were deemed to be a “Mens Domain”, as such the Club operated this way until the Annual General Meeting in March 2023, when Southport Probus became a Combined Club. Meetings are held at Dublin Docks, Harbour Town on the first Wednesday of each month at 10.00am. New Members are very welcome, so join Southport Probus for “FUN, FRIENDSHIP, FELLOWSHIP”.
