This trend, while unfortunate, was anticipated by our team. Our dedicated volunteers are still conducting early morning patrols throughout the Burleigh Heads CBD and beachfront areas, with over seven affected lorikeets being rescued each day. Reports from local residents also indicate that cases are spreading across other parts of the Gold Coast. We sincerely thank the community for their vigilance and compassion in reporting sick birds. It is crucial that affected lorikeets receive urgent veterinary care. If you come across an unwell lorikeet—or any injured bird—please gently place it in a secure box and take it to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, open daily from 8am to 5pm. Alternatively, you can contact our Hotline on 07 5527 2444, and we will arrange for one of our volunteers to assist. Together, we can help give these beautiful birds the best chance at recovery.
