25 If it weren’t for several strange holes in the Swiss cheese which all lined up, Belinda Carlisle would have been at Twin Towns about 4 years ago. Between Covid restrictions, knee issues and other problems, it all came to nought for Australian audiences. We were just so incredibly glad it finally happened. The full house at Twin Towns was probably quietly hoping to either justify the wait - or regretting not taking the refund offered back then. Lights lowered while musos started occupying the stage’s darkness. A sense of professional respect draped itself over the showroom. Then literally the most beautiful skirt ever seen on stage for years was worn by the barefooted Belinda who entered the spotlight. A gold pleated full-length sensational number! SORRY, back to the review. Belinda, herself a stunning singer of gold standard songs, took our apprehension away and replaced it with a non-stop rollout of hits. Again, the transformation from patrons seated to standing came much quicker than I expected. Carlisle’s “Decades Tour”, ten in Australia which all sold out – delivered excitingly live what we already loved on CD , radio and MTV. Clever, memorable, intelligent, pop MUSIC Review BELINDA CARLISLE Twin Towns Showroom - 3rd October 2024 songs! What was impressive, I later learned, was her early childhood inspirations included UK’s Animals and Cat Stevens and USA’s Beach Boys and the Stylistics. It’s no wonder these hook-driven tunes embedded themselves over the years. Including “Alex the Seal” - Belinda told us was not actually the name. Which basically means I’ll have to now sing the correct lyrics to “Our Lips Are Sealed”, from The Go-Go’s 1981 album ‘Beauty and the Beat’. The audience soaked up these masterpieces amongst many on the night: “In Too Deep”, “Summer Rain”, “Leave a light On” and an artistically performed “La Luna”. The “Decades” show seemed way too short – a classic indicator each of us were lost in the moment. And for this particular moment on the Gold Coast, “Heaven Is a Place on Earth”. www.twintowns.com.au www.101fm.com.au Reviewed by 101FM Radio Presenter Stu Robertson Photography by Michelle Cop (MC Photography) TO ENTER: POST: An envelope with your name, address and phone number on the back to: DARYL BRAITHWAITE TWIN TOWNS - PO Box 3302, Burleigh Town 4220 OR EMAIL: info@localnewsletters.com with DARYL BRAITHWAITE in the subject line. DARYL BRAITHWAITE ARIA Hall Of Fame Inductee and Australian music icon When you’ve got a back catalogue like Daryl Braithwaite’s it’s hard to find new material that will slip easily into an established canon of classic hits. In 2020, when almost no one expected it, Braithwaite returned with a stunning new single ‘Love Songs’. Let’s face it, you don’t get to wear that King of Pop crown for nothing. Daryl’s vocal pipes should be listed as a national treasure - as should his instinct for hearing a song and making it his own. It’s no surprise Daryl’s live audience warmed to the song immediately. “It’s like when I started out with Sherbet in 1970, that’s how you would gauge the reaction to new material. We’d all discuss it after the gig if the song had worked or not. The audience are the best indicator of those things.” “Roger finally got to hear it and said, ‘It suits you more than P!nk, and she’s not recording at the moment’. I was relieved. So, we went ahead and recorded it.” WIN a Double Pass to Daryl Braithwaite Saturday 21 Dec 2024 08:00pm Twin Towns Showroom 2 Wharf Street Tweed Heads
