Don’t miss the epitome of Motown excellence – the world’s best Motown show! Three brothers, their cousin, a good mate – and a couple of Californianmade Fender guitars. A household of influential harmony-soaked records and one pushy piano-playing dad. In 1958, it was not quite the evidence of a successful formula. It could turn in any direction, but Brian had taught the other two brothers Carl and Dennis, parts and harmonies. Encouraged by his 16th Birthday gift, a reel-to-reel tape recorder, Brian learnt how to overdub the vocals of his mum and Carl on the ¼ inch (6.35mm) magnetic tape. “Won’t-take-no-for-an-answer” father Murry Wilson tapped on the shoulder of a few people he knew (he was a songwriter as well) and achieved a recording contract for one song and a B-side. It did ok locally. It came out as the “Beach Boys” instead of the original name of “The Pendletones” - a play on the word of the popular “Pendleton” shirt brand surfers favoured in the era. You can blame the girls in the office for that famous twist. The dash between the numbers of 1961 – 2024 has seen the underestimated sales of 100 million records worldwide, and them being established as one of the most commercially musical and creatively savvy bands. It’s no wonder that people love to sing their songs to themselves or in this case to us, at the Twin Towns Showroom to a packed house. The Beach Boys Experience - an Australian creation - is amazingly unique in its surf-sandy difference of just damn good fun, fun, fun! Real musicians, with real instruments live on stage – with unassisted lusciously live vocal harmonies. They ticked all the forgotten entertainment boxes by enthusiastically engaging with the crowd. The hunt for any “Barbara Ann’s” or “Rhonda’s” to help them was relentless. God Only Knows how long I laughed at the chaos that ensued! The Beach Boys Experience encouraged our hearty singing, even at times providing the words on the side screens. There were Good Vibrations in the room tonight. An absolute must see! www.thebeachboysexperience.com.au www.twintowns.com.au www.101fm.com.au Reviewed by 101FM Radio Presenter Stu Robertson Photography by Michelle Cop (MC Photography) MUSIC Review THE BEACH BOYS EXPERIENCE Twin Towns | August 31st 2024 TO ENTER: POST: An envelope with your name, address and phone number on the back to: MOTOWN PO Box 3302, Burleigh Town 4220 OR EMAIL: info@localnewsletters.com with MOTOWN in the subject line.
