WIN A DOUBLE PASS Saturday 24 May @ 8.00PM | The Star Casino, Broadbeach An absolutely delightful early evenings’ multi-coloured sky became the ambient prelude for the first of her many concert tour engagements. Redlands Performing Arts Centre became this night, our happy place filled with fans clearly showing respect to “The Artist”. Of course, that “Artist” being Mirusia, the Australian soprano. However, her repertoire is so much wider than any genre could contain. Consider this: Operatic Pop, Classical, Classical Crossover and so much more. She has been tagged “The Angel of Australia”, amongst other equally complimentary titles. The audience hushed as the lights went from day-bright to a soothing night-light, signaling the commencement of a very special musical escape from this mad, crazy world. Sweeping to the front of the stage in one of a selection of glorious gowns, Mirusia and her hand-picked musicians (Shane Calderbank, Piano; Reuben Bradley on Drums, Wesley Taylor on guitar; Elias Kokkoris on electric & double Bass) wove their black and white dotted magic through so many songs. Artists like Mirusia are continually working their craft, pushing back against repetitiveness, and exploring opportunities after years with the internationally acclaimed André Rieu. A revival of the Musicals genre was experienced in the 1970’s by wonderful composers such as Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice - sometimes in a rock opera style. A new generation caught hold of both the power ballads and the enduring “story-song” formats. Unexpectedly, this drew attention to Hollywood film classics and Broadway musicals out of the ‘50’s and 60’s. Did I mention that Mirusia can sing simply like no other? The strength of her extended vocal range separates her from her peers is matchless, and her selfeffacing humour wins the patrons over every time. In whatever country she sings, Mirusia loves her audience authentically. In Dutch… “Je beste geven aan mensen die belangrijk voor je zijn” – translated: “Giving your best to people who matter to you” Please do your soul a favour. Take a friend and book tickets to hear Mirusia. Reviewed by 101FM Radio Presenter Stu Robertson www.101fm.com.au | Photography by Michelle Cop (MC Photography) Mirusia RPAC March 2025 Music Review
